Ditch Crossings
Requirements for crossing or encroaching on the company's ditch and right-of-way.
When a Crossing Permit Is Required
A permit is required before beginning any of the following within the company's right-of-way:
- Road or driveway crossings (culvert or bridge)
- Underground utility lines (water, gas, electric, fiber)
- Overhead utility crossings
- Pipeline crossings
- Any excavation within the right-of-way
Application Process
- Complete and submit the crossing application (link below).
- Include a site plan showing the proposed crossing location, dimensions, and method.
- The company will review your application and respond within 10 business days.
- Upon approval, you will receive a written crossing agreement specifying conditions and any required fees.
- Notify the ditch rider at least 5 business days before beginning work.
- The company retains the right to inspect during and after construction.

Emergency Work
If emergency work within the right-of-way is necessary to prevent imminent danger to persons or property, contact the ditch rider immediately at the number on the contact page. A permit application must still be submitted promptly after any emergency work.
